９月１０日（土）は戸坂の物件での勤務だったので昼食はパンに。

少し高台に入ったところにある住宅を改造したような街のパン屋さんです。

価格も小ぶりですが良心的でした。３点購入で４５５円でした。

同じく閉店した渋谷の東急ハンズも開店の日に行きました。

９月１０日（土曜日）は広島掃除に学ぶ会の活動で

平和大通りの街頭清掃（ゴミ拾い）に参加しました。

１３名の参加がありました。ありがとうございました。

当方は仕事が入ったためセッティングのみで退散、失礼しました。

[あの頃のレコード] The Band "Rock of Ages" (1972) Side B

 

「あの頃のレコード」は７０年代のロックを中心にアナログ・レコードで聴きなおすという無謀な企画です。

今年の年間テーマはザ・バンドのアルバムを全部聴きなおすでしたが、味わい多く、全部終わりそうにありません。

今日は"Rock of Ages"のSide 2です。この面がライブ・アルバムの白眉かと思います。レコード盤だと２枚組で４面ありますので１面ずつ紹介しています。

Side 2-1

"Stage Fright"は１９７０年、３枚目のアルバムのタイトル曲。作曲したロビー・ロバートソンの談ではヒッチコックの同名映画からインスパイアされたアイデアだそうです。

ベースのリック・ダンゴがヴォーカルをとっています。アルバムではフレットレス・ベースを使用しましたが、ライブでも聴いている限りではフレットレスのようです。

Side　2-2

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"

説明不要、ザ・バンドを代表する曲です。南北戦争の敗者側の心境を歌った歌ですが、聖書の「カインとアベル」の物語という下敷きもあるようで、なかなかザ・バンドの歌詞も奥が深いです。ライブ版はかなりスローに演奏しています。

Side 2-3

"Across the Great Divide"は１９６９年の二枚目のアルバム『ザ・バンド』収録曲。

"The Great Divide"は「ロッキー山脈」という意味と「生と死の境い目」という意味だそうです。歌詞も２つの意味にひっかけた現代版西部劇、西へ西へと希望を捜して旅をする、というような感じです。

Side 2-4

"This Wheel's on Fire"

ディランとリック・ダンゴの共作のクレジットがあります。オリジナルはベースメント・テープで録音されていて、正式な録音は１９６８年の『ミュージック・フロム・ビッグ・ピンク』です。ラスト・ワルツでもステージ上では演奏されてますが、映画・アルバムでの採用はありませんでした。「火の車」はシェークスピアや旧約聖書にもある表現で「燃えている車が道をころがっていく」イメージは現世と死後の世界の繋がりを表しているそうです。カス・ハドソンが改造したキーボードの不思議なサウンドや、コキコキするロビー・ロバートソンのギターのバックで不思議な雰囲気を出しています。

Side 2-5

"Rag Mama Rag"は１９６９年の『ザ・バンド』収録曲でシングル・カット。ザ・バンドにしては珍しく全英で１６位まで上がりました。明るいラグ調の曲は南部出身のリヴォン・ヘルムのアイデアがかなり入っているようです。ブラス隊が入ったことでご機嫌なナンバーになりました。

「不特定の人やもの」を指す場合に使う代名詞

すでに出た数えられる名詞の代わり

another ＜単数＞「もう１つのもの」= an + other
