[単語のカタマリ]
単語
句：２語以上の意味のある単語の連なり
節：SとVがある句
句は役割に応じて、名詞句・形容詞句・副詞句となる
例文
That young man wearing a brown shirt works hard to go to New York.
that young man:名詞句
wearing a brown shirt:形容詞句
to go to New York:副詞句
[形容詞節と名詞節]
例文
My sister knows that it is the skirt that I want.
名詞節：that it is the skirt that I want
形容詞節：that I want
that節
関係代名詞によって導かれた節は、形容詞節とも呼ぶ
節が英文の中で、主語、目的語、補語のいずれなになるとき、その節を名詞節と呼ぶ
例文ではknowの目的語になっている、目的語になるのは名詞のみ→名詞節

例文
We will cancel the tour if it's windy tomorrow.
we 主語、 cancel 動詞、 the tour 目的語
SVO文型で完結
if以下は修飾語句、文全体を修飾している副詞節
[動詞＋副詞]
副詞が動詞とくっつき熟語になり、自動詞・他動詞となる場合がある
自動詞：Stand up, wverybody.
Sit down, wverybody.
他動詞：i'll put on this coart. …このonは前置詞ではなく副詞
[自動詞＋前置詞]
自動詞が前置詞と組み合わさり、他動詞の働きをする場合がある
I was waiting for you.
They looked at your album. 見る
They looked for your album. 探す
